Reflections On Dietrich Bonhoeffer (From Busted Halo)

Years ago, I was asked a rather odd question – if the Catholic Church started canonising non-Catholics, which of them would you like to see made saints? It"s almost certainly never going to happen, but it"s still an interesting question. These days, I guess the prime candidate would be Brother Roger of Taize. When I was asked the question though, my answer was almost immediate: Dietrich Bonhoeffer.Bonhoeffer was a Lutheran pastor and theologian who was was killed in 1945 – one of the war"s last martyrs – for speaking out against the Nazis.
