‘A World Without Racism’: Columbans’ Schools Media Competition 2020

The Columban Missionary Society has launched its fourth annual journalism competition for secondary schools, asking students 14-18 years old to use their media skills to look at freeing our world of racism, a vital issue in our society which resonates with Catholic Social Teaching.

The competition is open for writing and image entries until 20 February 2021 and winners will be announced on 15 March 2021. Two separate competitions will be judged, one for students in Ireland and one in Britain and high-profile judges from the world of journalism have been secured.

The top prize in both the writing and image categories is £300, and the winning entries will be published in the Far East magazine, online on Columban websites in Ireland and Britain, shared on Columban social media, and published in other Catholic media.

This is a valuable opportunity for young people engage with an issue that addresses equality, justice and inclusio, draws on faith and personal experience, and allows students to develop and showcase their skills in writing and artwork.
