Catechetical Lessons For Wyd Prep & Other Uses

Panama2019 has produced a set of catechetical lessons to help prepare young people spiritually for January's World Youth Day. The lessons can be downloaded as pdfs, and cover a range of topics and a variety of activities, following the 'see, judge. act' model.

They're a useful set of resources on faith & justice and discernment even if you're not preparing to go to World Youth Day – and especially valuable if you're doing WorldYouthDay@Home in June and want to do some lead-up work for that. (I know it's late if you're off to Panama – I intended to share these a while ago – but I struggled to find the right link!)

The titles and aims for the session plans are:

  1. HELLO YOUNG PEOPLE!

Aim: To encourage the youth about their identity and the importance of their presence in society and the church, and to welcome them to the first catechesis.

2. DO YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE AS AN OPTION, OR DO YOU ALLOW YOURSELF TO LIVE!

Aim: To discover that we are vulnerable to situations or stimuli that we find in our environments and our personality. And that the personal encounter with Jesus helps us to clarify our identity and our vocation.

3. "Freedom is nothing but a chance to be better"

Aim: To joyfully discern opportunities that lead to full realisation, stemming from virtues and values.

There doesn't seem to be a 4 – or a 6!

5 LIKE MARY DID

Aim: To present Mary as a model person, mother, believer and Christian. She helps us understand the meaning of life, faith, God's call, and how we can live and respond to His call as she did

7 POVERTY AND MARGINALISATION vs. CONSUMERISTIC ECONOMY

Aim: To sensitise ourselves to the phenomenon of poverty in the midst of a world that is in constant economic progress.

8 THROWAWAY CULTURE: A society against solidarity and justice

Aim: Making the smallest and most marginalised feel like part of our world.

9 CHURCH OF THE POOR, CHURCH OF THE MARTYRS

Aim: Starting with the person of Christ and the life of the martyrs, reflect on the identity and mission of a servant Church present in the world of today.

10 MARY AND WOMEN'S SERVICE IN THE CHURCH AND IN MINISTRY

Aim: Awakening in young people the appreciation, admiration, and respect for the role of women in our continent and in our Church.
