Explore World Changing Principles With Million Minutes
Million Minutes develops new and innovative projects that help empower young people, inspired by the principles of Catholic social teaching, to reach out to those in need. Pictured above is Amy (from For Jimmy) a recipient of siLENT.
They're offering assemblies and workshops to Catholic schools in England and Wales over the coming year to encourage young people to take an active role in social action and inspire them to change their world – arrange yours now!
Million Minutes runs four activities year-round, all aimed at supporting the engagement of young people between the ages of 11 and 25:
- siLENT-an annual campaign to raise awareness and support young people. You can see the SiLENT information page here, and read about their project success stories here.
- The Celebrating Young People Awards – an event held every 18 months honouring young people who exemplify Catholic social teaching.
- Grants – creating Youth Led social action projects throughout England and Wales.
- Courtyard – a new project developing a model for Parishes to work with young people "on the edge".
Million Minutes is a Catholic charity launched in 2011 with the support of Margaret Mizen, Delia Smith, and Abbot Christopher Jamison.
"Our mission is to enable young people to be the difference in the world. Too often young people's enthusiasm and creativity is underestimated. They get shut out of decision-making, stereotyped, and scapegoated for society's problems. And it's not right."
Million Minutes Engagement Officer Kate Eastmond supports the implementation and engagement of our activities, all of which enable young people to engage with Catholic social teaching. Our engagement is carried out through a variety of talks, assemblies, workshops, and stalls across schools, parishes and local communities in and around England and Wales. Our Catholic social teaching resources are high impact including videos, info pages and a 90-minute youth pack suitable for young people between the ages of 11 to 25.
"Young people leave our talks feeling informed and inspired to live out and implement social action in their area, inspired by Million Minutes input and the world in which we all live"
