Crisis In Yemen – Online Discussion 24 January 2021

Ahead of the International Day of Action for Yemen (on Monday 25th January) Justice and Peace Scotland is hosting an online discussion on Sunday 24 January from 4:30 to 6pm, on the deepening crisis in Yemen.

The country is enduring the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, which has placed 24 million people, including over 12 million children, in desperate need.Unicef says “children are being robbed of their futures” as the longstanding impact of conflict and economic decline is exacerbated by COVID-19. The discussion will look at the links between arms manufacturers at home and the devastating conflict in Yemen.

Speakers include:
Emma Cockburn, the Scotland Coordinator at Campaign Against Arms Trade, who is responsible for highlighting Scotland’s contribution to the UK’s arms trade. Emma is currently working on supporting defence diversification projects and arms divestment opportunities across the country. Coming from an anti-nuclear and trade union background, Emma is passionate about empowering activists to create lasting change and is currently involved in creating a reporting detailing the arms industry’s influence in Scotland.”
Rev. Daniel Woodhouse, a Methodist minister currently serving in the Brighton and Hove Methodist Circuit. Over the past 15 years, he has been involved in many different forms of anti-arms activism, including a break in at BAE-Systems Warton over the sale of Jets to Saudi Arabia and their use in Yemen.
