Maryvale institute course
« on: January 13, 2012, 11:40:39 AM »
Has anyone any experience of the MA in Pastoral and Education studies at Maryvale? My reasons for favouring this institution are that I am considering the Permanent Diaconate and the training for this will be at Oscott where the Maryvale Institiute is based. I want to follow the catholic chaplaincy route and wondered if anyone has studied with them before. I'm also open to alternative suggestions for good quality academic programmes that encompass chaplaincy/catholic education (distance learning or based in north West)

I did a year of an M.A. at Maryvale and really enjoyed it. I know at least one other site member has studied there too. The input I got was very good.

By the way, I think I'm right in saying that Maryvale occupies the previous site of Oscott Seminary, rather than the current one. It's a building steeped in history actually. There is a small chapel off the main Chapel where J.H. Newman said his first Mass. Interesting stuff...

I've not done an MA with them, but I took my Diploma in Evangelisation and Youth Ministry at Maryvale and was very impressed with them and how they ran things.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll pursue this in more detail.

Jack, yes you're right. The sites are different. I think Maryvale does the academic part of the formation programme for Oscott candidates, although the diaconate won't be anything I'll pursue soon as my diocese doesn't currently have a diaconate :(
