Just came across this free piece of software that does something I have been wanting for a while http://www.screenmonkey.co.uk/.
I give presentations a lot and am forever having to clumsily switch between a PowerPoint, video file, web page and back again, this is particularly annoying when using multimedia for worship.
I haven't actually used this software yet and not sure how it will integrate with my wireless pointer but on the face of it it seems that it will enable me to set up a playlist of various different media and seamlessly switch between them for a presentation.
If anyone has experience with any similar solution I would be interested to know.

School Chaplains' Chat (Catholic Schools) / Year of Faith
« on: October 09, 2012, 08:47:31 AM »
Ok, so what are you all doing for the year of faith?
Our diocese, have some interesting events on that I want to take some of our staff and sixthformers along to. But I have yet to decide what I am going to do for the main body of the school.

Fr James Martin SJ is releasing a new video each day for the next 40 days, of basically religious jokes, some better than others, the delivery not too funny, but the material might be useful.

School Chaplains' Chat (Catholic Schools) / Chaplaincy SEN
« on: April 20, 2012, 10:17:39 AM »
We have just finished running our Yr 8 retreats, which went really well, but I was aware that alot of the content went well over the heads of some of our boys with more severe Special Educational Needs especially some of the autistic boys. I think I need to put some more work into "differentiating" some of the sessions, but I am also thinking it might be worth doing an afternoon retreat at school specifically for some of these boys. Does anyone have any good resources for chaplaincy/youth ministry/catechesis for kids with SEN?

School Chaplains' Chat (Catholic Schools) / Peer to Peer evangelisation
« on: November 24, 2011, 09:07:22 AM »
I had an interesting conversation yesterday with 2 of my Altar Servers. One announced that he was an Atheist and then the other started having a go at him, calling into question why the boy was in the school and why was he in the chaplaincy, and shouldn't he just leave.
In due course I would love to minister to the angostics in the school by having a little open minded "agnostics R us" discussion group. But my more pressing concern was the reaction of the 'believer'. I am more and more convinced of Jesus' way of doing things, he spoke to people in large crowds, told them stories, tried to make things relevant (Assmeblies); and then bumped into people and stretched out a hand of compassion and genuine concern for them as an individual whoever they were whilst also managing to challenge (wondering the playgrounds and school events). But he also spent a considerable time with a small group of disciples whom he trained to be able to go out and spread the goodnews. I am not sure how well I do this as a chaplain. I think if my 'beleiving' altar server had had a bit more advise and training from me about evangelisation and being a disciple and compassion, rather than just how to serve well at the altar then he may have engaged rather differently with the boy who announced he was an atheist.

Anyone else done any small group stuff along the lines of evangelisation/discipleship training in a school context? Any one know of any good resources?

I came across this article in the Jesuit magazine "America" reviewing a book of research about young people and their faith. The article seems to give a good summary of the findings of the research, yes the american situation is quite different, but it seems to have some interesting things that ring true. http://www.americamagazine.org/content/article.cfm?article_id=12911

One of the things that stands out for me is that I really don't do enough to assist parents in their role as faith developers.
