I'm not going now sadly. Have a meeting instead that's rather important.  :-X

Indeed. St. Tim's has a strong reputation for being thoroughly awesome, so they say what they mean here and they mean what they say. They expect a very good youth minister who will lead teens to Christ, and they'll get one.

I'm currently writing a series of pieces about how Youth Ministry needs to change and about what a good approach to youth ministry will look like. I'm guessing it will look a lot like St. Tim's ;D

I need to get some portrait prints of Pope Francis for the day job. as far as I can tell, they're not available yet.

And, yes, I know I can print one out etc etc, but we want some proper, official ones.

Any ideas?

 ;D

Ah, I remember that well. About 2002 I think!! :)

There used to be another club in Keswick which was, if you can believe this, even worse. I forget what it was called, which is probably just as well!!

Hi Hannah... I'm Jack. We E-mailed yesterday.

Great to have you on the site. I'm also a Chaplain and an ex-Castlerigger, so you're in good company. Hoepfully ;D

I've got good memories of All Saints too. Say hi to Joe Gee for me if he's still there  :)

I think this is very difficult stuff to deal with. I suppose we have to remember that there are people for whom the mozetta and the liturgical laws are incredibly important to some people.

Somebody said once that the Church is a cruise ship, not a dingy, and so you have to turn slowly and carefully. If you turn too quickly, people will fall over the side!

Personally, I would like to see a Church that caters to different spiritualities. I don't mind trads that much. They get a lot from their way of doing things, but I do mind it when they tell us that their way of doing things is superior. In liturgy and prayer - unlike doctrine and morality - there is room for legitimate difference. So I guess what I'd prefer is to see some creative liturgy and reform of the Curia, but with EF Mass etc etc for them that wants it!

7
Well, maybe so. He certainly looks more frail.

I'll keep him in my Holy Week prayers...

8
He is looking more frail. He's got quite a pronounced hump too which I don't recall noticing before.

It will all, no doubt, add fuel to the he's-got-a-terminal-illness-and-thats-why-he-resigned-consipracy fire!

9
I was way off on all 3 measures.

I also lost my tenner on Dolan :o

10
When I was working in the Caribbean I saw up close how some of these Churches go about poaching Catholics and it really wasn't pretty!!

11
What I love about this is that Penn is basically telling Piers Morgan that he's not a proper Catholic. Which he's really not...

12
Turkson would be good so we could say "when the pope came to CYMFed........."

Ah yeah, I didn't think of that ;D

After a conversation I had with somebody today, I am starting to drift towards Ouellet too. His language skills may win the day for him. It will either be him or Scola. Scola is Italian, which may stand in his favour or may go against him (i.e. give it back to the Italians and you'll never get it away again!)

13
Canizares was always referred to as 'the little Ratzinger,' so yeah maybe...

14
It was actually for one of the feeder primaries rather than me.

I've got tonnes now, but thanks anyway ;D

Pretty much everyone in Catholic Youth Ministry must know when I am really busy... it's the times when nothing much appears on the site for days on end.

Over the last week or so, it's been pretty chocka (English slang for busy!) and the next week is going to be pretty similar.

That said though, it's a nice time. Busy, but we're getting a lot of good stuff done. And, as ever, I'm learning a thing or two as I go along. Here is some of what I have learned lately...

I've learned that when working with short attention spans, short sharp bursts of info/ talks/ video work better than long talks.

I've learned that five minutes is as long as a video clip should be - unless it's really good.

I've learned that publicising events is a must. Always. Never take your foot of the gas!

I've learned that I need to be less last-minute and prep better!

I've learned that I should remember that new leaders aren't that comfortable with small group work. They need support, encouragement and tips...

What have you learned lately?

16
Ah yeah... that reminds me... check out Stef Reid's talk at Flame. It's on this site somewhere or other. Really good...

17
I think Tim Vine is an evangelical, but I might be wrong.

Here's some that spring to mind for me...

Tim Tebow (American Football player, protestant)
Delia Smith (very serious Catholic)
Mark Wahlberg (Actor, Catholic)
Jack Dee
Julie Etchingham (Newsreader)

Thanks folks.

All in all, this saves me a lot of work  ;D

I found one in the CYW dropbox too!!

20
Anyone got a Mass PowerPoint they can send me with the new translation responses please?

 ;D

Apologies for the fact that this podcast contains so much of... well, me.

I mean... it's not nice when you're having your tea ;)

Useful Videos, Film & TV Clips / Re: Movies: Gangster Squad

Another great movie: "They put one of yours in the hospital, you put one of theirs in the morgue!"

23
Just to add...

I just pre-ordered 2 copies from Amazon. I thought I might as well take a punt!

The delivery estimate is April 10th. I might run a sweepstake on when they actually land on my mat  ;)

I don't mind at all - always happy to be constructively challenged, and you make some really good points there.

I really used to admire some of the De La Salle brothers I worked with. They wouldn't have had a clue what was on TV or in the charts, but they knew God and they loved the people they worked with.

I think there's also value though in being able to say to YP that you understand their culture and can help them to navigate their way through it in a more practical way.

As you say, more than one way to skin a cat (poor cat!)

 ;D

I've been playing with this since I downloaded it and I'm really impressed.

If you like it, don't forget to go review it ;D
