Hi Folks,

Just wondering if anyone out there can recommend a good video that promotes vocation (in its broader sense...not just priesthood and religious life) We have a whole day of promoting a culture of vocation in school next week as part of our Week of Faith and I just can't seem to find a good vid.

Any thoughts?

To all members and potential members of ACCE, our annual retreat is taking place in January and we would love you to come. It is at Ampleforth, 22nd-24th January led by a monk from the community. It is always a very profound and uplifting experience in such beuatiful surroundiings and I encourage you to attend if you can. The leaflet and flyer call it CPD so that chaplains are more likely to get permission to go.

If you would like a booking form, please send me a direct message and I will get one sent out to you as soon as possible.

Hope to see you there!

Useful Videos, Film & TV Clips / Mark Wahlberg on film, family and faith
« on: January 12, 2012, 11:25:31 AM »
I came across this video on this website today where Mark Wahlberg openly talks about his education, career, his past, his family and his Catholic faith... and golf! I figure that this gets updated pretty much every day so when you click the link you might not get the video but you could always search for it. I thought it was really good. Covers a range of topics and generally a lovely lad who has turned his life around!

Catholic World Youth Day / The Controversy of WYD Rio
« on: January 10, 2012, 11:03:28 AM »
I have heard recently that the Bishops of England and Wales are still undecided as to whether their Dioceses are going to be making the usual pilgrimage to WYD.

It is down to a moral issue by all accounts and just wondered what peoples thoughts are.

The problem is that the World Cup is being help in Rio in 2014. The area that they are using as one of the main arenas is currently a shanty town. This particualr area is also where the main events for WYD are going to be held therefore the Church coming into some kind of conflict because there is a serious moral issue here. They are basically clearing the people who live in these shanty towns off the land to make way for the World Cup but the church is seemingly taking a hammering for this too. I think that the Bishops are right to have reservations as I think it is wrong that they are doing this and do not really want to play party to it. I do, however, really want to go to WYD but do not think my conscience would allow it if this is really the case.

I have not heard anything "official" so to say but apparently this is the reason why there appears to be some hesitation about it.

Either way, they will still probably clear the people out for the World Cup but I think that as a church we should stand united in our love and service of the poor!

Just wondered if anyone else had heard anything or if people had already begun to make plans for Rio???

Musician's Corner / Advent Praise and Worship
« on: November 08, 2011, 02:46:48 PM »
Hi everyone! Just a quick question. Looking for some Advent appropriate praise and worship songs for a Holy Hour on 16th Dec ( a long way off I know but need to start teaching them soon) and wondered if you had any ideas? I am so tired today that I can only think of Light of the World so far. Poor show from someone whose iPod is 98% praise and worship!!!

Thanking you!

School Chaplains' Chat (Catholic Schools) / Good Speakers
« on: November 01, 2011, 10:12:04 AM »
Hi all,

Just wondering if you could please help me out. My Head has asked me to suggest some inspirational speakers for our Diocesan Heads' Conference in May. Apparently if I don't find him someone good...it's down to me...so any help you can offer me would be great as I am having a mental block! We don't want to use David Wells again (even though we love him) as we have literally just had a huge event with him up here with all staff in our schools and he also spoke to the Heads not so long ago.

Sr Judith Russi was another one but she is unable to do it.   :'( Dreading it falling to me! Ha ha

So...suggest away and I'd be really grateful!

Love ya's...oh, and Happy Feast of All Saints too!

CYMFed Flame Congress 2012 / We are on our way!!!
« on: June 17, 2011, 03:21:54 PM »
So, who is coming to FLAME?

Our diocese have chartered a train (which thankfully stops in Hartlepool) and we are coming! With everything all in (return train/tube/event ticket) it costs only £59, now that is a bargain!

It's going to be such an amazing day that if you've not even thought about it yet...then you need to! I've just written my invite for our young people. I'm so excited...thinking T-shirts and all kinds!

Hope to see you there!!! ;D ;D ;D
