Franz Jägerstätter: A Story of Remarkable Faith

In 1943 Franz Jägerstätter, an Austrian peasant farmer, was executed for refusing to fight in Hitler’s army. A devout Catholic, Franz believed he could not be faithful to Jesus and fight for the Nazis. Franz Jägerstätter was beatified in October 2007.

This Pax Christi workshop explores Franz’s story, his witness, and what he can teach us about the Christian vocation to peacemaking.

Wednesday 7 November, 5 - 7pm, at the CRESST offices in Sheffield

Over a quarter of countries are involved in armed conflict, while Amnesty International's 2012 report bemoans a 'failure of leadership ... to protect human rights.' What would you seek first: peace or human rights? Can you do both?

Ahead of Human Rights Day (10 December), this skill-share will model ways to introduce human rights topics to the classroom accessibly and how to explore dilemmas when peace and human rights seem to be at odds, stimulating critical thinking and citizenship skills.

The workshop will be facilitated by Ellis Brooks, a Peace Education Trainer with the Peacemakers Project in Birmingham. Ellis has served as the Country Coordinator for Israel and the Occupied Territories and Syria with Amnesty International UK, and trains young people in conflict resolution skills and in human rights.

This is a free workshop. In order to get an idea of numbers it is useful if you register for this event by emailing Matt at Pax Christi or send me a DM on here.
