I'm hoping to go, but a little nervous about going on my own. Anyone else planning on being there?

Yeah, I'm probably going Clare.

How about a CatholicYouthWork.com group outing??

(Maybe we can rope some A&B Chaplains in too)

We should figure out how many of us want to go and then buy the tickets in one job lot so we can sit together...

Sounds interesting, has anyone been in previous years?  I'm wondering if it might be worth travelling down for it.

I've not been, but I've heard it's really good. I know that the folks at Premier (the parent company) are keen to get Catholics involved too.

There are certainly some impressive names on the bill, like Mark Oestreicher for one!

I went to Youth Work Summit in Salford last year and thought it excellent. The selection of speakers were outstanding and I particularly liked how everything moved so quickly. No lengthy lectures to doze off too but lots of short, provocative, and inspirational input.

I went on my own but think the experience would have been enhanced had I been with others. For me the only negative was that it was all a bit loud for my tastes - my left ear suffers painfully with high volume and I was troubled by the worship music and left early to avoid the same problem at the end.

I would have gone back this year but it clashes with our AGM. So I will be in Bristol.

Only if we can go to the pub afterwards! It will be the final of the Heineken Cup.

Very good idea - although I'm going to propose that the school pays for my ticket AND I'm going to see if I can bring some of the teachers.

ent to the Salford extravaganza last year, should be at this years.  The set up is brilliant, short sharp to the point, usually something that gives a different take on something you thought you had all figured.  The best thing about it probably won't be the 'big name' they get.

For example last year they had Mark Yaconnelli who led an Ignatian retreat day and then round off the day with a very clever 'liturgy' at the end.  However the speaker many remember was a lady Called Lynne Edwards who came on stage with a toilet brush and basically shared how her role in youth ministry and the success of her project was because she cleaned the loo.  That wasn't quite the whole but she was brilliant and was just your average woman responding to a need.

They had a lecturer who looked at the use of Messianic imagery in advertising which was incredibly eye opening, then a talk about James bond and rats.

The speakers are often challenging too.  The worship will be provided by Rend Collective Worship Experiment again.  Definitely worth the trip down, I am really looking forward to it.  Even going on your own isn't so daunting as people will talk to anyone.  Would be good catch you there though.

Just booked- the tickets aren't numbered, Jack, so we don't need to group book. If you book before midnight tonight, you get a free book too :)

Okay, I'll book...

Did you book for the whole thing or just the later part?

i.e. was it the £30 ticket? Or the £50?

Okay I've booked.

I went for the full day ticket. Mark Oestreicher is on for the early part and I'd really like to see him, so I've booked the whole thing.

Looking forward to it.

We can work out meeting up and stuff closer to the time :)

I can't afford the day out of school for the Early Day, so I'm just doing the full Saturday. :)

I'm talking rubbish- I'm not doing the early day as it's the same day as the Chaplain's Day, and we're having a retreat up at Worth. I knew I'd had a reason not to be going, I'd forgotten it was because I'm already having a day out!!

Ooh, I'd forgotten about the Chaplains' Day.

Darn. That's a dilemma and a half!!

Is there a page that I can print off on the Youthwork Summit?
I can't get the school to pay for anything unless they have all details written down - their website doesn't have any kind of text-only page where I can print!

That's the PDF version of the programme- I had a printed version of this in a copy of Youthwork Magazine recently...

Thanks for the reminder about the Youth Work magazine, you've just motivated me to sign up for it.  Still undecided about the conference, it does sounds great but I will let you know if I book a ticket.  Thanks to those who provided feedback from last year.
