Thoughts from Flame?
« on: March 25, 2012, 04:27:55 PM »
Hi everyone

I've been inspired to write this post having read the article posted on the front page of the site.

I thought Flame was absolutely amazing. What a way to spend a Saturday, joined together with thousands of other young Catholics. I took something from everyone's talk - loved the Glee flash mob and was amazed by Adoration in the Arena. Debbie Flood and Margaret Mizen in particular were very inspiring. I shared some thoughts with the young people on the coach home and we joined with 5 decades of the Rosary to pray for different intentions, especially the follow up to Flame 2012. Can't wait to be part of it!

Just wondering what your thoughts are? Favourite speaker? Still singing the Anthem? What are you going to do now?

Katharine

Barry Mizen's words 'if I want a peaceful world I must be peaceful, if I want a compassionate world I must be compassionate, if I want a friendly world, I must be friendly'

I think I'm going to have trouble writing my thoughts down in anything that doesn't just seem like a babbling stream of consciousness. It was just soooo good. In an era when much of the Church in the western world is declining, youth ministry seems to be really stickin' it to 'em... We've now seen what youth ministry is capable off and that raises the bar considerably for all of us.

Check the #Flame2012 hashtag on twitter for some great responses. Check Facebook.com/FlameCongress too ;D

Particular highlights were the flashmob (I'd been looking forward to that all day!), the Mizens, Fr Timothy Radcliffe, Adoration (with an excellent call to prayer by Fr Christopher Jamieson), Woody and the fact that I got to see lots and lots of friends!  All the young people loved it.  In fact, they loved it so much that there's a slight disappointment that there isn't going to be another one!

It's not definite that there isn't going to be another one. Mind you, it's not definite that there is going to be, but well... it's still an open question  ;D

I have to admit that when I first saw the list of speakers that had been booked and how vague the programme was at first, I was worried. I thought - how are they going to make sitting in our seats for 6 hours interesting!?!?!?

Well... they proved me wrong and I'm so glad they did!

Being semi-official photographer for the day I got a brilliant seat and there was no bit where I thought - this isn't excellent and interesting enough to take a photograph! The atmosphere in the arena during the flash mob was electric and watching the mexican wave from the front was pretty special too. The silence during adoration was beautiful - I got so into the prayer that I missed taking a photo of the benediction moment!  ;D
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! Phil 4:13
