What difference does having the Blessed Sacrament make to us?

A friend of mine is working on a masters essay and asked me this question which I found a little tricky.
There is, of course, the obvious answer but she went on to ask whether the Blessed Sacrament would still make a difference to a place if nobody knew it was there??
Interesting...
My answer is that I guess it's like when somebody is praying for you but you don't realise it. It is a powerful thing, so it still has an effect.
What do others think?

I take it the odds are against us and the situation is grim... Sounds like fun!

A couple of thoughts.
1. The mode of Jesus's presence in the eucharist is sacramental. I think this suggests it is something not easily thought out side of human relatedness.
2. Thomas Aquinas posed himself the question whether if a mouse got into the tabernacle and ate some of the consecrated host, would the mouse have received jesus christ, aquinas reasoned, no.
3. On the other side of this fine line there was I think a heresy that suggested that Jesus was only present in the eucharist if the individual believed he was.

Hi,
on a very simple level (the only one I tend to function on) a pupil asked me at break time today if there was anyone in our Chapel at school - she was looking for a classmate. I said the only one in there was God and this opened up a conversation on where and who God is, with a pupil I'd not spoken too much before. Had my answer been that nobody was in the Chapel, if the Blessed Sacrament had not been present, there'd have been no conversation...
