THOSE YEEESSSS!!! MOMENTS

The aim is that we share those moments of coolness that make it all worthwhile.
Here's the post which I started it all with a few years back:
---
Here's a thought... I am currently on night duty at a retreat centre. I am knackered because I was on a residential at the same retreat centre with the Lourdes YSG this weekend. And when I get back to school I have a huge liturgy to organise.
Being, as I am, a youth worker, I am very tired, I don't have much money, I am constantly busy, but yet I love my job more than anything in the world. Not because I love pain, but because I know at moments like this that when youth work works, it REALLY works.
So at moments like this, rather than thinking of reasons to stay awake, or counting up just exactly how much sleep I'm gonna get tonight, I think of those awesome moments when it goes perfectly and we just nail it.
Right now, I am thinking of the moment over the summer in Lourdes when I watched a girl give a talk about her faith to half of the pilgrimage and break down in tears as she described the effect that Lourdes had had on her faith and her life. I am also thinking about when we returned from Lourdes, and the DYO told the young people that he could see Christ in them all - and everyone in the room knew exactly what he meant. I am also thinking of this same retreat (that I'm on now) last year when they were in tears on the final night after affirmations when they read so many positive things about themselves, and how they entered into the Mass the next day.
There are just so many, and they are like nuts stashed away for winter; the winter being when I am tired or stroppy, or when I read my bank statement!
So... The purpose of this thread is to share lovely stories of when youth work has really hit home. It's not about discussing why things work, or what works. It's not a place for debate. It's just a place to share stories about times when they do. Those moments that just make you go YEEEEEES!!
So, please... go nuts!

Having supervised a student (Social Worker) on placement for the last four months we are finally "talking" youth work!
The 'chasm' (from youth work to social work and
vice versa
) has been a difficult one to bridge, from my point of view, but we recently had a meeting where it fell into place in a fresh way and we were speaking the same language. We could critique theories, address spiritual questions and identify learning - and, I have to say, if they decided to go into youth work rather than social work I think they would make a pretty good youth worker!
Of course, what I know about social work could be written on the back of a postage stamp, but that's changing too. So it's not just about young people, it's about the people we train to work along side us.

I had such an amazing practice session today with my chapel choir ahead of our whole school Mass on Friday.
Not only did they sing beautifully, but it was just such a good laugh!

During a brilliant Mass today in the ruins of an Abbey round the corner from school, two particularly special moments. First when the 6 priests sang the final doxology, plainsong. Honestly it could have been centuries ago hearing those voices echo round the Abbey and then when a Year 9 girl played the introduction to Be thou my vision so beautifully on her violin. The entire school and all the guests seemed to be holding their breath listening in true awe and wonder.
