Take the CAFOD Mass challenge!!
« on: September 03, 2011, 06:51:45 PM »
I've had an idea... it came to me during my first Mass with the revised translation this evening.

The idea is quite simple. It goes like this: Every time you accidentally say 'and also with you' or 'God of power and might' or 'Christ has died...' or anything from the old translation, you put £1 in a box and give it to CAFOD.

It will help us to learn the new Mass and also raise some cash for a good cause.

So... who's in?

I like it. I'm in :)

Does it count against you if your parish makes you sing the clap clap gloria? Seriously I thought the back of that might be a silver lining, seems like my parish has other ideas!

I think if it's forced on you it's okay!!

The transition is staggered and to be honest I don't quite understand it all. A friend of mine said that the only bits of the new translation they did at her parish today was the Eucharistic prayer (priests parts only!)

I think that nothing has to be done until Advent, but that it can happen now. But I might be wrong about that.

Advent is definitely the end of the clappy Gloria though. Well, unless your parish just decides to rebel, which to be honest a lot probably will.

Ha, we've been using the new translation in a 'staggered' way here since last Advent and it's as confusing as ever. Half the parishes switched over entirely and immediately, and half are rebelliously holding on as long as possible to the 'old' version. Which is fine until you go to something like a joint Mass and nobody's quite sure which version we're working to. The people doing the 'old' version do tend to get dirty looks though...

I think the start of Advent 2011 is D-Day for the entire world i.e. the point where everyone MUST switch over.

Of course, some parishes will still rebel even then.

What will be amusing is things like weddings, baptisms, Lourdes etc - i.e. when people who don't always go to Mass rub shoulders with those who do. By then, we'll be used to it all, and the others will stick out like a sore thumb!!

I keep forgetting to say that after this Sunday, I now owe £3 to my CAFOD box.

There was one 'and also with you,' one accidental starting off of the old creed and one 'it is right to give him thanks and praise!'

Ah well...

I am going to a wedding this Sunday (of one of the site mods!!) which will be interesting, as weddings normally have a good few people who haven't been to Mass for a while, so I expect the responses to be all over the place!!

They got nothing from me this weekend gone... what's to bet I now get it all wrong this coming weekend?!

I now owe £8 to CAFOD.

I messed up once at Peter's wedding yesterday, and then a staggering four times this morning at Mass. Terrible.
