Introduce Yourselves...
« on: June 02, 2011, 12:37:59 PM »
Once you've registered on the site, it might be fun to tell us a little bit about yourself. Who are you? Where are you? And why have you joined the site?

By the way, here is a link to the old introductions thread from the old site: http://archive.catholicyouthwork.com/introduce_yourself.html

Well, I'll kick off to get things moving along.

My name is Jack and I have been a youth worker. Spent most of my career in residential centres, but with a load of other stuff thrown in. Currently working as a school Chaplain with a bit of diocesan work on the side.

I also run this site. This is the third or fourth attempt I have made over the last decade or so to make something cool and useful for youth ministers on the web. Bit of a labour of love, but worth it!

I'm Clare, I'm 25 and despite being from "up north", I'm now in my 7th year of living and ministering down south!

I'm a School Chaplain (which I love- definitely the best job in the world), happily married (9 months, 3 weeks, 2 days and counting! :D) and I like cheese. :)

Hi, I'm Anna, originally from Wigan, I'm 33 but not for much longer (!) and have been married for 3 years this coming August.  I work at an all boys school in Liverpool as Chaplain and have been there for 11 years this week and I live in St Helens.  Before that I worked at Castlerigg Manor in Keswick for two years and studied Theology at Durham University before that and have been involved in Catholic youth work since I was about 16! Oh, and I have a bit of a thing for penguins - not the chocolate biscuits, the animal!

Hi everyone,

My name is Cleo and I am a Secondary school chaplain. Been happily married for nearly 7 yrs now and am based in Romford, Essex. I'm 36 years old and I've been involved in Faith based youth work since I was 18.

I'm a total film and tv buff (as anyone who knows me will testify) and I love to use popular culture to spread the Gospel. So if anyone knows any good film clips or wants any good film clips to use with young people, let me know.

Anything else you wanna know, just ask! Am happy to talk to everyone and anyone :-)

God Bless

Cleo xxx

Hi all, I'm Dennis  :D

I'm from the People's Republic of Liverpool but currently do missionary work in Preston (in the faraway Diocese of Lancaster).  I've been a Chaplain now for 9 years (eek!) and have done other bits of Catholic youth work here and there, especially involving Lourdes.  Oh, and I'm a Liverpool fan (just like JPII)!

Hi, I'm Nikki, residing in Cumbria where I have been a school chaplain for 14 years. I'm married with 3 children whose ages range from 6 to 23 (!) so when I leave the joys and tribulations of young people behind at the end of the school day I get to enjoy it all again at home!

Hi I'm Gemma, I'm 27. I took a gap year with Sion Community when I was 18 which turned into 7 years!!! I was then a school Chaplain for 2 years and have just started as  Senior programme leader at the SPEC centre (Westminster Diocesan retreat centre).

I love working with young people and helping them to encounter God in the everyday things of life.

I am also a bit of a chocoholic!  ;D
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! Phil 4:13

Hi, I'm Fiona, I'm 28 and I just got married this year.  I am currently the Diocesan Youth Officer for the Diocese of Middlesbrough and have been for nearly 5 years.  This isn't going to be the case for much longer though as I am moving over the river(!) to be school chaplain at St Roberts, Washington in September.

I'm Matt. I am the youth and schools worker for Pax Christi. I did some other stuff, retreat centre, chaplaincy, parish stuff and the like, but that all seems a long time ago. I am a great supporter of Cake Thursday and, since it is Thursday, recommend you have cake.

Warrow! My name is Paul, I've been a parish-based youth worker in Birmingham for almost 8 years. I spent 3 years with the (now defunct) Nottingham Pilgrims Community from 94-97, where I met my wife. We have 3 children, with a fourth on the way!

I studied Youth and Community Work and Applied Theology at Midlands Centre for Youth Ministry and have a Cert Ed in Catechesis and Applied Theology from Maryvale Institute. My present job allows me to facilitate groups of student Youth Workers in their learning as well as to supervise Social Work students on placement. I also help run an annual youth retreat called "breathe" in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside!

My wife and I are Benedictine Oblates at Colwich Abbey and I love Benedictine spirituality, prayer and chant.
Prayer is the most fundamental form of Theology.

Hello.

I'm Janet currently Deanery Youth Ministry Co-ordinator for St, Michael's Deanery in Hexham and Newcastle.  I've done a bit of Local Authority work, retreat centres and parish volunteer aswell as well as with St. John Ambulance.

I love seeing adults and young people come together and Church and realise they're not so different from each other.

Currently trying to work with young people on how we move our youth ministry forward in coming months and years as well as training for a certain It's A Knockout where Hartlepool will be weeping.

The sky is blue, the clouds are white and that's why God's a Wednesdayite  ;)

A 'missionary' from God's Own County now residing in Liverpool.  I am a Lay Chaplain of 5 and a half years and work in a Catholic High School in Widnes.

I have been married for just over 2 years to a wonderful man who I love dearly.  I am blessed in so many ways (my season ticket at Hillsborough is the cross I bear!).

xx

Hi, I'm Margaret, currently Chaplain at Newman University College, Birmingham and have been for almost 8years (now that went fast!). Prior to that I worked with the Birmingham Catholic Youth Service for I think about five years. Along the way I've gained a JNC in Youth Work and a MA in Contemporary Theology.

Bit of a sports fanatic; everything although Hurling, Gaelic football and Rugby top the list!Delighted to say I was successful in gaining some Olympic tickets  ;D, so looking forward to 2012!

Favourite quote (although don't know exactly where it come from) is: God writes straight with crooked lines....
... a reminder to me that God is always one step ahead no matter what is happening.

Hi, I'm Sean Skinner, and I do many things...

I was brought up in the Catholic Church. I have a love for leading contemporary worship music, and found that this was more at home for in an CoE church down the road. I studied at the University of Edinburgh for 2 years, and I'm now an Intern at Youthwork Magazine and produce Youthwork the Podcast www.youthwork.co.uk/podcast

I also feel I spend too much time rebuking those who look down on other Christian denominations...

Hello!

I'm Chris, and have recently taken up the role of Chaplain at a 6th form in the north west. I'm just finishing my MA at Heythrop College while also doing lots of bits and bobs for the Salesians (www.Salesianyouthministry.com - including this website!), CAFOD and Million Minutes...

I used to like music and play lots of guitar, but I've recently found myself working too much... yikes!

Fun facts about me : I'm probably the only person you know who supports Oldham Athletic, and most of my belongings are currently spread out all over the country...
