Ooh, good point...

Personally, I might steer clear of CTS. Nothing against them, but they have done rather well out of the Revised Translation so far, so I might give Collins a look-in!!

Nice to see the Weekday Missals coming down in price so much too (the Collins one anyway!)

When I started in youth ministry they were £40+ ???

I'm going for Collins, as I prefer having a seperate Sunday and Weekday Missal... and CTS have done either Sunday or everything! :) I like having the little one on a Sunday, but I need the weekday stuff too.

Thanks for posting the links, btw, I must order mine soon! :D

I've seen the CTS ones. They include some fine artwork and have English/Latin in places - which I appreciate. However, I haven't seen the Collins yet so it's difficult to make a direct comparison, although I hope people don't mind me saying that I'm expecting there to be an improvement on the previous version!  ;D

One thing that can be said at the outset is that Collins will retain the Sunday and Weekday versions, while CTS will be going with a Sunday or Daily option (ie both Sundays and Weekdays in one volume). Bet that'll be a big book!

I went to the Pauline Books and Media shop to pick mine up yesterday and it took me a good 10 minutes to figure out where the prefaces were this morning! Ha ha, it was fun though. I got the 3 different versions of the CTS ones as we were encouraged as a diocese to do so and we got a pretty good discount with it all too. I quite like the study edition, soft leather cover and perfect for travelling with. THe Altar edition is HUGE but really quite beautiful. The Chapel edition is the one we will probably use on a weekly basis though. I have no complaints about the CTS ones really. I think it will take me a while to get the hang of finding out where things can be found!

I thought the study edition was primarily for the celebrant. Have you used it to follow the mass? How did you find it?

I have not used it yet, or should I say, the Celebrant hasn't. I only picked the Missals up on THursday and have ony had one Mass since then and the Chapel Edition is the one we will use most. We have quite a few pilgrimages and trips though so the study edition will be really handy as it is lightweight.

Redemptorist Publications have produced a Sunday Missal too, due out this month.

I've bit the bullet and gone for the CTS daily Missal. I have to say that I kinda like the idea of having an all-in-one even though it might be a little big.

(When I say I've ordered it, what I mean is that I've made it my response to my parents questions of 'what do you want for Christmas!')

By the way, for those of you with iPhones of iPod touch, I can thoroughly recommend Universalis.

It has full order of Mass/ Letionary/ Breviary for every day and even lets you chose between ferias and memorials/ feast days etc. It also lets you chose where you are in the world and adjusts the calendar accordingly. You can even select some diocees (like Westminster!)

It's quite expensive but really worth it. I find it soooooo useful as a Chaplain.

More details here. It's probably available for android too.

I'd also recommend universalis. I don't have an iPad or iPhone, but bought the programme myself- they're very generous with their lisencing terms, so I can have it on my school computer, my school laptop, my home laptop and load whatever stuff I want onto my Kindle all under the one lisence. (As long as it won't be used on more than one machine at once, they're happy for you to have it wherever you want).

It is very, very handy!

You can, however, use the full version to make ebooks that can be read on your Android phone :)

Now we're into the new year I thought I'd ask what people thought of their new hand missals!

How are people finding them?

I've still not ordered mine yet. I think I need to wait for a few months till our bank balance has recovered a little from a Christmas!

In the mean time, I've been using the readings and order of Mass books from Universalis on my Kindle, which I've actually found surprisingly helpful.
